As the nature of workplace has changed, the nature of workplace violence is also changing. Just because an employee has changed their work location does not mean there is no longer a risk of workplace violence or other safety concerns. Safety and security cannot begin and end at the walls of the employer’s facilities or the perimeter of their parking lots. The employee working from home may still incur a risk of violence but not enjoy the physical security apparatus or violence prevention programs and practices in place in the traditional workplace, thereby creating a perfect storm of risk. Both employers and employees who are concerned with the possibility of violence encountered on the job would greatly benefit by a discussion of the contemporary workplace violence landscape.

Lack of trust in you is not about plexiglass, hand cream and desk wipes. Those things are universally expected.

What about your workplace’s safety for emergencies other than COVID like civil unrest, workplace violence, a fire, bomb threat—there’s a long list. Your employees are stressed; are coworkers safe to be around? Drugs, alcohol, suicides, street crime, gun violence, gun sales, guns confiscated, OSHA complaints, OSHA citations—all of these uses and abuses are way up since the virus has struck.

Do your employees trust that you have planned for all this? Trained everyone?

One of the most common security challenges is phishing attacks, which both companies and individuals can face while trying to keep their information secure. Hackers can use email, phone calls, social media, or any other form of communication to try and get access to credit cards, passwords, or other sensitive information that is not usually shared with strangers so lightly.

How can security keep pace with a cyber threat landscape that rapidly becomes more sophisticated and appears to have an unlimited appetite for growth? The Information Security Forum (ISF) believes that human-centered security is the way forward. The idea starts with a simple premise, and one backed up by empirical evidence; human beings tend to be the weak link in any security setup. Security awareness thus must stay in tune with expected realities and patterns of behavior in how they interact with technology and make decisions while using it.

We've recently experienced a renewed interest in ACP's Industry Sponsorship Program from companies providing products and services to contingency professionals. These individuals are responsible for a variety of mission critical functions including business continuity, disaster recovery, emergency management, and risk management.  This is an opportunity for industry organizations to tell your story and educate an expanding marketplace as to the value of your company deliverables.  As an Association Industry Sponsor you can be assured of significant exposure to our members in a variety of mediums including our weekly communication News & Views.

Further information on the program can be found under the "Sponsors" tab of the ACP website.  Why not take the opportunity to have a conversation with ACP staff regarding the program deliverables which best align with your strategic marketing plan.  They can be reached at This email address is being protected from spambots.
