Central Arizona Chapter: Susan Czarnowski
Susan has been a contributing member of the chapter for many years. She took a position on the Board as Treasurer in 2017 and has done an outstanding job managing our chapter funds.  She accepted suggestions from another member with a degree in Accounting which simplified that process. Susan ensures monthly treasurer reports are provided as well as the annual audit and mandatory paperwork submitted. This past year, she stepped in to also help when the elected secretary suddenly resigned, turning out accurate Board minutes. She organizes the year-end appreciation meeting. Susan is professional, level-headed, fair, communicative and a team player. Our chapter expenses would not be paid without her. She is an asset to our chapter.

Steve Eberlein
Workplace Resilience + Engagement Manager, Ethos Preparedness

Steve Eberlein and his wife Lydia were living in Sri Lanka when a 9.1 subduction zone earthquake off the coast of Indonesia triggered a massive tsunami that took 230,000 lives in more than a dozen countries, including 35,000 in Sri Lanka. As aid workers, they were active witnesses to one of the largest multi-national relief efforts in history, starting from its earliest hours.

One of the obstacles that we face as resilience professionals is securing internal support from senior leadership. As planners, “selling” isn’t always in our wheelhouse, but it’s a skill that we all need to gain backing for our most ambitious resilience projects. If you’re looking to polish your next big pitch, are preparing to speak at a conference, or simply want to become a more impactful and persuasive communicator, this workshop is for you.

Steve Eberlein is a TEDx alum and professional speaker. In the course of delivering more than 200 live and virtual presentations, including to leadership teams of name brand companies, he’s seen everything go wrong, and has learned to do it right. His presentation will cover the following:

• The three things that you need to know about your audience
• How to deliver a noteless presentation
• Effective vs. awful use of PowerPoint
• Choosing the scope of your pitch –what’s too much, what’s too little
• Winning the day with Q&A
• Special tips for virtual presentations

Dr. Bernard A. Jones
Assistant Professor St. John's University
Chapter President, ACP Garden State Chapter
Board Member, ACP National Board of Directors

Dr. Bernard A. Jones, CBCP, serves as Assistant Professor at St. John’s University. He is a certified business continuity and emergency management professional with more than 20 years of experience implementing enterprise business continuity and emergency management programs.
The foundations of resilience research are embedded in psychology; however, the concept has been adopted in many other areas. Moreover, the multifaceted and diverse field of resilience has become more prevalent in disaster response literature but is confusing in the different ways defined and applied. This presentation will clarify the concept of resilience and develop a helpful dialogue about better ways to assist those experiencing disaster. If communities want to survive, recover, and thrive in the aftermath of disaster events, we need to begin with helping individuals and organizations in understanding resilience.

Now more than ever, powerful emotions, attitudes, and beliefs are shaping the threat landscape and behavioral response to disasters and emergencies. From lingering concerns about COVID-19 to heat emergencies, wildfires, storms, acts of civil unrest, and domestic extremism, the dynamic threat landscape calls for decision-makers and responders to have a comprehensive understanding of the often surprising behavior of people in crisis conditions.

The summer schedule allows Behavioral Science Applications LLC to offer some of our most popular and useful training programs in a condensed 8-week series format.

Join webinar presenter Steve Crimando for eight one-hour classes that are offered individually or as a certificate program.

By now, everyone who uses the internet has been told they need to set strong passwords on their accounts. Some follow that advice, and some sites even force us to add a little complexity, but many still don’t. Every time another site is breached and security researchers find the account credentials circulating among criminals on the dark web, we still see lots of passwords set as “password” and “123456 `” or even the site name like “evite”, “dubsmash”, etc.

Clearly the message is not getting through.
