  • 21 Mar 2025
  • 1:15 PM - 3:00 PM
  • Atlantis Community, 201 S. Cherokee St. Unit 100, Denver, CO 80223

March Chapter Meeting - Friday, 21st
You Must See or Hear this presentation!

Topic: Business Continuity using the CMIST Resource Tool
Learn how the CMIST framework helps organizations enhance disaster preparedness by addressing access and functional needs in continuity planning. True resilience means inclusive planning--nothing about us, without us!

At-risk individuals may have a number of additional needs that must be considered in planning for, responding to, and recovering from a disaster or public health emergency. The CMIST Framework is a recommended approach for integrating the Access and Functional Needs (AFN) of these individuals.

**
CMIST is an acronym for the following five categories: Communication, Maintaining health, Independence, Support and Safety, and Transportation

Speaker - Curtis Garrett, Atlantis Community & long time CRMC member
most recently speaker at Fall 2024 - IAEM24

Curt grew up in Lakewood where he went to a segregated school for students with disabilities until he was one of the first students to be “mainstreamed” in Jefferson County. He graduated from Metro State University with a BA in Recreation Administration.  He became involved with disaster planning while being the chairperson for the Denver Commission for People with Disabilities. He attended FEMA’s “Get Real Conference” in 2011 where he heard the tragic stories of how lack of planning forced people with disabilities out of their communities, separated them from families, and even led to death in some cases.

It is his goal not to let this happen here in Colorado. “Recovery from a disaster tomorrow depends on our preparation today.”

Registration closes at Noon, Thurs March 20th.

** ASL Interpretation and additional accommodations are available.
